Robi Damelin and Ali Abu Awwad participated in Yom Kippur service at Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains, NY.

10/2007

Rabbi Shira Milgrom has invited Robi and Ali to share with her congregation their experience and thoughts about Forgiveness. We thank Rabbi Milgrom for opening her home to the Parents Circle and for her generous contribution to our work.

Here is one of many moving E-mails she received from her congregants after the event:

I was very moved that so many people used the opportunity you gave us to write about their own "sins" and not the generic ones we all mouth, often with no thought. I also want to thank you, for what I think was a first in my 63 years of synagogue attendence, of turning the forgiveness not for ourselves, but for those we believe have hurt us.

Usually I'm exhausted and depressed after yom kippor. Having listened to the speakers at the adult afternoon service in the chapel I felt uplifted. At my age there are few heros left. Those three people who rise through their pain to make a difference gave me hope that peace is possible and goodness lives.
