PARENTS CIRCLE - FAMILIES FORUM PALESTINIAN AND ISRAELI BEREAVED FAMILIES FOR RECONCILIATION AND PEACE. STATEMENT RE; TURKISH SHIP MAVI MARMARA:

The Parents Circle - Families Forum expresses its deep concern and shock at the violence which took place on the Turkish ship Marmara which was part of the flotilla on its way to Gaza.  Yet another incident leading to further loss of life and injuries.  Nine people gave up their lives to this ongoing conflict, their identities yet unknown.

Who better than us to know the consequences to the families of these people.  Each one had a name, had dreams for the future.  We know the ultimate pain caused to the families and friends of the deceased.  In the midst of all the trauma and anger we must not for one minute forget the sanctity of human life.

These events just strengthen our conviction that the conflict will never end without a dialog and an understanding of the needs of the other.  Violence is not the answer.

Those who long for peace and dignity in our land understand that a solution will not come if we do not recognize the human rights of all in the area.  Recent events make it clear that violence is not the answer and will not lead to a solution for the conflict.  We urgently need a new way of thinking which is based on the principle of knowing the needs of the other and respecting their human rights.  A new attitude recognizing the existence of the other .A new way of thinking and initiative to solving the difficult problems of the area.  Moreover without working without the other will never lead to a viable solution.

Let us take this terrible event which shocked everyone in the region , and indeed all over the world and turn it into an opportunity for an innovative way of thinking to create a breakthrough to a life of peace, reconciliation and cooperation between the two nations.
