Public presentation of the Association of Friends of the Parents Circle Families Forum (PCFF) and opening of the exhibition "Cartoons in Conflict"

Madrid, November 16 at 20 hours at the Foundation "Diario Madrid"

(Spanish follows)

The establishment of the Association of Friends of the Parents Circle Families Forum in June 2010, which we celebrate today publicly, is an important landmark in the relations between the Parents Circle-Families Forum (PCFF) and Spain.

Historically speaking, the first institutional trip of the PCFF in our country took place in February 2008, under the auspices of the Infomedio Foundation, on the occasion of the premiere of the documental "Encounter Point". Since then, the PCFF has become a reference non-governmental organization when referring to the promotion of peace and reconciliation among Israelis and Palestinians.

Eleven missions of the PCFF, having an always equally Israeli and Palestinian representation, have visited Spain since then. In this short period of time, the PCFF has visited seven autonomous communities: Andalucia, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Madrid, the Basque Country and the Principality of Asturias. In all these visits the PCFF has received an extraordinary political and institutional support from governmental and opposition representatives, as well as from the civil society and the media.

On the official level, representatives of the PCFF met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, in three opportunities, in which he expressed the full support of the Spanish government. This high level of contact is kept with the responsible people for international relations of the various political groups represented at the Congress of Deputies and in the various Autonomous Parliaments aforementioned.

The Israeli and Palestinian spoke-persons of the PCFF have been summoned by the Congress of the Deputies and Basque Parliament and they brought their testimony to the representatives of the various political groups represented in both Parliaments.

We have brought our message of peace at the educational and outreach levels, to various audiences, from secondary schools students to university professors, through multiple cultural centers and public audiences.

The PCFF has been awarded with the Peace and Dialog Prize for 2009 of  the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, symbolizing that our message is not only promoting the approaching of Israelis and Palestinians, but also between Israelis and Arabs, Jews and Moslems. The Solidarity Award of the VIIth International Social Films Festival held in Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha, praised the PCFF contribution to value education, the prevention of violence and the defense of human rights in a conflict situation.

The candidacy of the PCFF the Prince of Asturias 2009 Concord Prizes, which was forwarded by both Casa Sefarad-Israel and Casa Arabe, was a remarkable landmark in the Arab-Israeli cooperation to foster peace and reconciliation, and it received the support of more than three hundred social and civil organization, both at the national and the international levels.

We are also very proud that our work has been supported by the Embassy of Israel in Spain and by the Palestinian Diplomatic Mission in Spain, loyal to our bi-national spirit of the PCFF, which keeps two offices, one in Israel and the other in the Palestinian Territories.

This huge work developed in Spain would have not been sp widely known without the staunch support of the media. Our press dossier includes more than hundred twenty interviews, articles and notes about the PCFF, developed by various written, radio and tv programs. On the other hand , various Spanish correspondents in the Middle East have produced reportages and interviews on members of the PCFF and several documentary films have presented our educational work on the ground in IIsrael and the Palestinian Territories.

The Friends of the PCFF in Spain which we are presenting today at the national level, intends as its main aim to support the PCFF in its work in favor of peace and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. In order to reach this objective, it promotes international cooperation projects in Israel and the Palestinian Authority and develops outreach activities in Spain which promote the aims of the PCFF.

We hope continuing having your support, deepen our existing relations  and expanding the number of Friends who support the message of the PCFF.
